The Vern and Aileen Kohler Dementia Program: Making Connections Through Music
The Vern and Aileen Kohler Dementia Program: Making Connections Through Music, is a gift from The Kohler Family. This specialized program is designed to provide one on one interactions to individuals in a facility that are unable to attend group programs due to more advanced dementia or other challenges limiting daily interactions.
Individuals with later stages of dementia are often disconnected from others. Families find it difficult to engage in conversations as they once did. Music bridges the gap that dementia creates and these individuals are once again engaged with the world around them. A simple tap of the toe, opening of eyes and singing along in response to the music lights a spark of connection.
From Bart, Linda, Steve and Michelle Kohler
“My mom recently passed away after a difficult battle with dementia. One of the few ways we could connect with her at the end was through music. We decided to honor her by donating to an agency in the Cincinnati area that brought the gift of music to older people in retirement and assisted living. The Greater Cincinnati Foundation recommended Creative Aging to us and after meeting Bev and the board, we were happy to support their wonderful mission.”
